Senior Accountant

We are currently looking to recruit a Senior Accountant to join the team at our premises in Nicosia.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Accounting/Finance/Economics or a related field;
  • Completed or working towards an accounting qualification including the ACCA/ACA/CPA;
  • Minimum 3 years’ of professional accounting experience
  • Excellent communication skills in both Greek and English;
  • Proficient computer literacy;


Responsibilities of the position

The Senior Accountant typical tasks and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Supervise daily reporting and posting of journal entries in the accounting system and ensure that all records are up to date;
  • Supervise bank reconciliations, bookkeeping and payment requests;
  • Track and monitor accounts receivable and accounts payable
  • Preparation of accounting records based on international financial reporting standards (‘’IFRS’’);
  • Review and submit of VAT services & returns; liaise with Cyprus Tax and VAT authorities
  • Maintain the fixed asset register including depreciation calculations;
  • Assist in the audit of the fund entities and fund Manager (CIF) according to international financial reporting standards (‘’IFRS’’) ensuring on-time tax and statutory filing;
  • Preparation of interim and year-end financial accounts, periodic and regulatory reports for the fund entities and the fund manager as required by CySec, CBC and/or Companies’ Registrar;
  • Liaising with CySec, CBC, Custodian, brokers, banks, auditors and clients ensuring smooth business operations;
  • Maintain accounting controls by preparing and implementing policies and procedures;
  • Mentoring and supporting more junior members of the team;
  • Working in a team and supporting in servicing clients, assisting with day to day requests and responding to their needs.

 

Knowledge and Experience

  • Previous experience in a Finance team is highly desirable;
  • Good interpersonal communication skills, both written and oral;
  • Must possess great attention to detail;
  • Ability to work under pressure;
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and organize own work to meet set deadlines;

Qualifications

  • Applicant will ideally hold a relevant academic background in Accounting/Finance/Economics or a related field;
  • Any previous working experience will be considered an advantage;
  • Working towards a relevant accounting qualification including the ACCA/ACA/CPA will be considered a plus , but not a prerequisite;

Responsibilities of the position

The Junior Accountant typical tasks and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Bank reconciliation and payment requests;
  • Issue and post invoices on the accounting system and keep records up to date;
  • Responsible for the book-keeping (sales, purchases, nominal ledgers, etc) and providing assistance in the audit of the fund entities, fund Manager (CIF)ensuring on-time tax and statutory filing;
  • Assist in the preparation of interim and year-end financial accounts, periodic and regulatory reports for the fund entities and the fund manager as required by CySec, CBC and/or Companies
  • Preparation of VAT services & returns;
  • Liaising with Custodian, banks, auditors and clients ensuring smooth business operations;

  • Work under the supervision of a Senior Accountant and the Financial Controller
  • Working in a team and supporting supervisors in servicing clients, assisting with day to day requests and responding to their needs.

The successful candidate should be a native Dutch speaker with a keen appreciation of regional Dutch and/or Belgian cultural differences and an understanding of the individual decision making process, especially in relation to our online service offering.

Job description

  • Work with the business development and the development team to support the full translation of our service into Dutch;
  • Translate and develop social media posts;
  • Identify navigational or support opportunities and work with our communications team to explain or correct them;
  • Provide Dutch chat (or telephone) support. During our initial stages support - usually via chat - is prioritised and should be provided in a timely manner.
  • Liaise with investment advisors if required (please note that we are looking for a support person not an investment advisor).

Requirements

  • Native Dutch, or Flemish, speaker;
  • Fluent English;
  • A Dutch or Belgian university degree;
  • Some financial education is an asset, but not a requirement.
